Went fishing with my girlfriend to teach her how to fish. We were catching small reef fish which was okay for her experience, but I suddenly hooked onto this monster hinalea (green wrasse). I was using an Ugly Stick 8-ft pole and reel combo, with 10-lb test line and shrimp for bait.
I was shocked at our huge catch and brought it right home to eat it. I did not think much of it, but I weighed and measured it out of curiosity. After showing my coworkers, they said I should email HAWAII FISHING NEWS because the current state record is much smaller.
I was proud of my catch and glad it could be a state record. It was tasty too!
