Jodie Daniels of North Pole, Alaska caught the state record mako shark on a charter with Capt. Glen Hodson of the HUSTLER, a Kona-based charter boat. Using a Penn International spooled with 130-lb test line and a 3-lb skipjack tuna for bait, Jodie hooked and landed a 1,207-lb monster that was 12-feet in length. Because of the common practice of the crewman bringing the pole to the angler who is already in the fighting chair, this incredible catch is not an IGFA world record. It is, however, nearly 300 lbs larger than the current world record holder's fish. Jodie's fish was caught on March 2, 1990.
