Dennis Kunahisa and three friends were fishing on the AHNDI LYNN 15 miles off the North Shore of Oahu when they hooked their monster marlin on 150-lb test line. The fight lasted for 1 hour and 20 minutes. The Haleiwa scales only went to 1,000 lbs so they had to estimate the weight of the fish between 1100 and 1200 lbs.
