It was a crazy trip. I headed down to Manuka Bay Friday morning. My friends and I did a day dive when we got down there. I scoped out this shallow spot to the left. Ended up trying it out that night. Slid a small ta'ape and about 11:00pm thats when it all happened. Just finished making my plate of dinner and the pole went off. Ran out there to the pole, took it out of the stand and just clamped that spool. After a couple short runs he started gliding right. Ended up getting pinned down for 45-50 minutes. I would gain but only to a certain point and it wouldnt come any more. After that much time went by I decided to just pull it out and take the chance of the line breaking but it ended up coming out and from there she came in and then the beast was on the rocks. Super stoked to have achieved my goal of catching my 100 pound fish before I turn 21. And definitely couldnt have done it without my friends amping me up and gaffing the fish.
